  • If He Could Govern ...

If Obama could govern as well as he campaigns, he could be a very good President or even a great President. But as it is, he is nothing more than a bag of hot air. Never has been. Still, I don't worry so much about recovering from his incompetence as I do about having to deal for many years to come with the stupid and uninformed people who put him in office -- not once but twice.

  • I think it's a little early to judge Obama's impact as president. To be sure, he has been unable to get most of his programs through congress and IMHO will mostly be remembered as the spearhead of dramatic change in the makeup of the American electorate.
The GOP is doing its job very well - that of the captain of the Titantic.

  • I think you have confused the GOP with the Democratic party and its leader Barrack Obama. It was he, afterall, who campaigned on the promise to "fundamentally change the way America works." And it wasn't until he took office that the country took a dramatic change for the worse. THE DEMs have mastered the art of blaming their own failures on someone else, and you my friend have been duped!

  • When Obama took the oath the US was mired in the worst depression since the 1930s - brought about by the disastrous policies of the Bush-Cheney administration and we were fighting two long and meaningless (to the US anyway) wars. How has it taken a " dramatic change for the worse"? Perhaps you are referring to the Affordable Care Act, or the US GNP growth rate - which has exceeded that of almost every other developed nation during the past decade.
OTOH, maybe Hillary will do better;-)

  • I hate to be the one to tell you this, but there hasn't been a depression. There has been a recession, but compared to some other recessions in our history, this one has been rather mild. Also, this administration has created the worst economic recovery from a recession. And by trying to blame it all on Bush, you prove my point about democrats never accepting any of the responsibility for what happens on their watch. Just today, the administration said that the poor showing in the economy this year is the result of the weather.

I wonder who they will blame for the failure to try to fix the VA problems when those problems were a 2008 campaign promise. Obama knew about them, but did nothing. And the mysterious loss of IRS emails -- not for everyone, or even for an entire department, but just those of six employees whose emails have been subpoenaed by congress. And today I heard that the EPA has lost some emails that congress has asked for.

And will the administration come back now and try to blame Obama's abuse of power and failure to uphold the terms of his oath on Bush as well? Pleeeese!!! Open your eyes man.

  • Depression - recession - downturn - collapse - economic correction - bubble bursting - call it what you will. the unemployment rate more than doubled.
Traditionally - every president from FDR to Reagan to Clinton has adjusted to economic downturns by increasing government spending - mostly on the military and infrastructure. Congress has refused to let Obama do this without concurrent reduction in entitlement spending - which would make matters worse (all us suckers at the public tit tend to spend, not salt away, our monthly stipend)
The VA's problems have a rather simple cause - too many vets needing care and not enough $ to provide it coupled with a massive bureaucracy designed to care for far fewer needy vets.
Personally, I've always been eligible for the VA - but never used it - I saw the type of care my parents got (My father was a Captain in the USCG - I was a SGT in the army)
Basically, our present economic and political problems stem from far too low a tax rate - and I say that even though my retired income would put me in one of the higher brackets.
The IRS lost emails and other red herrings of that type are typical of a politics far out of touch with the majority of Americans. If the only way the GOP can keep control of the House of Rep is by Gerrymandering, they are in deep trouble. We have serious problems: A decaying infrastructure, immigration, loss of a viable middle class, and more. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay - get over it.
From my viewpoint, Obama is far too timid and conservative; look back at what Saint Reagan did (Iran-Contra - tax raises- union busting - etc)
