GOP Debates
As we go into a new election cycle, debates between candidates are to be expected; but when is enough to much? I think that televised debates between hopefuls that haven't even gotten the nomination yet are pretty much useless. Yes, the public gets a chance to see hopefuls, but when eight people get on a stage for an hour, the moderator can't ask any one of them enough serious questions to allow the audience to determine what they believe across a wide spectrum of issues.
In my view, the candidates for nomination would do better to be working the circuit and the backrooms trying to build a base from which they can launch a serious campaign against the opposition candidate. Then those who actually receive the nomination can have a serious debate or two.
And that's all I have to say about that.

if the hopefuls do not debate, how do you propose the caucuses and primaries choose the nominee?
@ProudToBeAChristianFruitcake - Early debates should be at the local level. By visiting the individual States and districts and convincing voters face to face that they not only have the voters best interest at heart, but that they have the ability to get the job done better than the other guy. There would be plenty of time to debate the issues locally and to press the flesh and kiss the babies.
The presidential debates between the nominated candidates are a good idea but you are right - all those clowns on the stage at one is a ridiculous spectacle with nothing but sound-bites. a hell of a way to select a candidate.
