  • Emergency Money To Help Pay For The Inauguration?

I read that President Bush has authorized emergence funds to help pay for the inauguration for incoming President elect, Barack Obama.  I find it revolting for either party to use tax dollars to fund any part of the proceedings other than the security aspects of the event.

The funds should come exclusively from the funds available to the winning party -- in this case the Democratic National Committee (DNC).  It's their responsibilitry to fund the events, while staying within their budget.

It is outragous what politicians will do with the tax dollars they collect, and during economic hard times, it's even worse.  These people, Democratic and Republican alike, have all set themselves up more or less as royality and believe they are entitled to State Balls and Banquets at the expense of the working class.  They have betrayed the Consitiution, and we all have betrayed the Founding Fathers for allowing it to happen.

  • So ... what I want to know is: what happened to all that money Obama raised??? And why can't they use some of that?? Since when does he need "emergency" funding?!?!? Bah.

  • @CHorsey - Actually, the word now is that the government is only going to pick up the security tab.  I guess they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar and backed off.  In any case, President Bush should never have made such an authorization.  OR, and this is very possible, the press generated an a bad story to grab headlines and readers.

  • @thereluctantsinger - That makes sense ... sort of. The whole thing is weird, especially the part about "emergency spending." After all, a Presidential inauguration happens every 4 years ... last I checked. I'm getting to where I really despise and distrust the media.

  • Indeed you are very correct. Washington would be absolutely appalled at the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the inauguration.
